The babies are all growing like crazy and they will be moved into the greenhouse soon.  I can't wait to get my hands in the dirt again!  Spring is just around the corner as I hear the Phoebe's calling out to their mates, the Cardinals sitting close together and the Chickadees are singing their mating songs. It is starting to smell like Spring as well!  We are starting a new contest this month on Facebook.  Simply go to our page and post and you will be entered in a drawing for 2 Free Bars of Soap!!  As promised, here is the first installment of photos and information from my friend and nature photographer, Laura Terril!  If you would like prints of any of these photos, please go to the friendly finds page for her e-mail address and pop her a line!  For space purposes, I have kept these small but if you would like to see them larger drop me a line.  Also.....the prints you will get from Laura would be any size you like up to 8"X10".

Please note that all of Laura's pictures are copywrited and may not be copied or reproduced for any reason without permission.  Thank you!
The Beautiful Purple Finch

The striking Male.

And one more!

A Couple Sharing a Snack

What Laura has to say about the beautiful Purple Finch....

"The Purple Finch is a sparrow size bird, with a thicker bill, that people often confuse with the House Fiinch, because of its purpleish color, which is really more raspberry, and the House Finch is more Red. The males are the more colorful as in most of the bird world, and their female counterpart is heavily streaked with brown and have a pale streaked eyebrow. Numerous during spring migration, and for a few weeks each year you can hear the beautiful spirited song of the brightly colored males, wooing their females.
They prefer rich mixed and coniferous woodlands, and have 4-5 blueish green eggs, may be spotted at the larger end with dark brown, in a nest made of grasses and twigs, sometimes lined in hair, usually in a conifer.
In winter you can find them easily at feeding stations with Sunflower seed being their seed of choice."

What I can add about the Finch......
Their energy is of Variety and Multiplicity.  It is one of the most abundant types of birds in North America with there being over 300 kinds.  If Finch becomes your totem you will experience a variety of activities and everything will be amplified.  Anytime a Finch comes into your life, there is going to be more activity.  Watch for all kinds of different experiences and encounters from all different sorts of people.  If the Purple Finch is in your life, look for love, passion, wisdom, strength and on the other spectrum....anger, aggression, impulse, misunderstandings or obsessions.

An Aries Moon is only good for planting onions and garlic.
A Taurus Moon is fairly good for planting.  An Earth sign, it is good for root crops and also leafy vegetables.
